An Overview of the Corporate Human Rights Responsibility in Turkey:
Istanbul 3rd Airport, Galataport Istanbul, Hunutlu Thermal Power Plant, Kirazlı Gold Mine, and Yusufeli Dam
Drawing on five different investment and mega-infrastructure projects in Turkey, the report elaborates on the perception of the corporate responsibility to respect human rights. The five investment and mega infrastructure projects to be focused on were determined by consulting the relevant civil society actors and local stakeholders in a meeting – whereas their active collaboration has been maintained throughout the research.
The research on which the report is based, employs the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights’ perspective and is structured in two parts: (i) Research on adverse human rights and environmental impacts of the projects in question, and (ii) Assessment of human rights commitments of the companies and banks involved as investors and financier banks of those projects.
