The project seeks to enhance Istanbul’s participatory budgeting system by improving digital tools, communication, and guidelines, drawing on best practices from successful model Decidim from Barcelona to increase citizen engagement, transparency, and trust in local governance.
Images from project implementation stage
The project strengthens citizen engagement and transparency in Istanbul by implementing user-friendly digital tools, clear project selection guidelines, and accessible platforms that make it easier for all residents to understand and participate in the budgeting process. It also builds the capacity of local government officials and community leaders through training, site visits, and knowledge exchange with international partners like Decidim, fostering sustainable participatory governance. Moreover, it promotes the broader adoption of Decidim’s participatory framework across diverse cultural and political contexts, encouraging inclusive and effective citizen involvement in decision-making.
