# THE:PLACE
# 1st Round Projects
The project aimed to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and expertise between ACRED and Roof Coliving in developing and managing collective, community-based buildings for both housing and work.
Images from project implementation stage
ACRED brought into the project valuable experience in establishing community-based housing and workspaces, as well as building institutions within this ecosystem. Roof Coliving on the other hand, with expertise in these methodologies, collaborated with ACRED to develop a roadmap for a local alliance for collective housing in Türkiye.
The project also focused on learning about financing and establishing community-based housing projects in economically volatile contexts. For ACRED, the main objective was to leverage Roof Coliving’s experience in creative placemaking processes to empower their Kazán community, enhancing problem-solving and improving their shared space. Through this collaboration, the project strives to create sustainable, community-driven environments that promote inclusivity and ownership.

Roof Coliving
Roof Coliving works with the dream of establishing common living spaces where people with different identities and disciplines can live together. It redesigns living spaces with participatory methods, including human and community relations. Roof Coliving started in 2019 with the aim of creating a new culture of living together by improving people’s ability to live and produce together. The aim is to transform home culture from being private to a common life. It models common living spaces for regional needs with the participation of citizens through its work on the urban scale and tries to create pluralist and participatory dialogue spaces in cities by not accepting top-down design approaches.
Alliance for Collaborative Real Estate Development
(ACRED)
ACRED is a non-profit organization that provides community-based real estate services – development and building management – as part of the emerging solidarity economy ecosystem in Hungary and Eastern Europe. ACRED takes a new angle on real estate development. It aims to create physical spaces in which communities based on the principles of solidarity and democracy can form, develop, and work together. The Alliance sees collective ownership of property as a contribution to the emergence of a more just and equal society.
