The 17th issue of beyond.istanbul, titled “Spatial Justice and Biodiversity,” is out! We will come together with the guest editor and contributing authors to discuss this issue—which approaches biodiversity through the lenses of nature conservation, policy, social struggles, urban planning, cultural memory, and rights-based perspectives—at an in-person launch event on April 1 at Postane.

Title: Spatial Justice and Biodiversity
Date: Wednesday, April 1, 2026
Time: 18:30–20:00
Moderator: Emrah Çoraman
Speakers: Kumru Çılgın, Pınar Ertör, Gönenç Göçmengil, Doğanay Tolunay, Nurbahar Usta
Venue: Postane (in person)

This issue invites readers to think of biodiversity as a shared life infrastructure that enables the continuity of different species and social life. In the panel organized as part of the launch, we aim to discuss biodiversity loss along the axes of habitats, planning, decision-making processes, public knowledge, memory, and social resilience.

In parallel with the main themes of the issue, we will address biodiversity loss through the lenses of conditions, policy, ecosystems, and memory. The discussion will bring together topics ranging from ecosystem transformations to spatial planning and decision-making processes, from the spatial-ecological dynamics around the Marmara region to natural history museums and the memory of biodiversity.

The event will take place in person at Postane on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 18:30, with the participation of contributors Kumru Çılgın, Pınar Ertör, Gönenç Göçmengil, Doğanay Tolunay, and Nurbahar Usta. The panel will be moderated by guest editor Emrah Çoraman.
