Few companies involved in projects such as mining, energy, and infrastructure, which do not consider public interest, and are sometimes directly or indirectly perceived as responsible for environmental damage and societal issues, develop methods to gain the consent of the public or address potential grievances. Most of them continue their activities without considering the consent of the public as a necessity, and often operate against their will. None of these companies take into account the negative impacts of their activities on people and the environment.
Through our efforts focusing on the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, we highlight the responsibility and accountability of companies, a significant actor group in environmental justice issues, for human rights violations and negative environmental impacts. We aim to raise awareness around these issues by addressing topics such as public consent, human rights impact assessment processes, and the defense of human rights advocates.
