As the Center for Spatial Justice, we have been\u00a0using \u201cwalking\u201d as a method to understand and\u00a0investigate the city ever since our establishment,\u00a0and carry out workshops, events, and research on\u00a0this axis. We believe that walking has an important\u00a0place in urban studies, that relationships with\u00a0history, different social groups, and places are\u00a0established by walking, and that the opportunity\u00a0to access information without intermediaries is\u00a0thus created.<\/p>\n
In the past two years, we organised eight\u00a0thematic walking events within Istanbul, where\u00a0we experienced and documented various\u00a0geographical, urban, and social conditions.\u00a0Together with academics, we determined the\u00a0stops of these routes which would convey\u00a0their own political ecology. Photographers,\u00a0videographers, and artists as well as experts\u00a0joined our walks along these routes. We invited\u00a0researchers, associations, and societies that make\u00a0use of the practice of walking in their research\/\u00a0activism or conduct walking-oriented efforts\u00a0themselves to the New Walking Practices, the\u00a0closing event of our project, where we discussed\u00a0the possibilities and limits of \u201cnew walking\u00a0practices\u201d.
