Volkan Işıl was born in Samsun in 1985. He graduated from the Department of Film Design and Writing at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Dokuz Eylül University. He received his MA in Film Design with his thesis “Representations of Poverty and Gift Culture in Turkish Cinema: From the 1990s to Present” from Dokuz Eylül University. His scripts and documentaries were screened in many national and international festivals. For the last two years, he’s been managing the preliminary work, shooting, and editing processes of documentary, video-news, and publicity works of the Center for Spatial Justice. In the meantime, Işıl continues his work on poverty in Turkish cinema and its cultural representations.
